Scholarly Activity Collaborative (SAC)

"Standalone expertise thrives more heartily in an environment of teamwork."

Scholarly activity enables physicians to shape and improve the healthcare systems where they practice. Have an idea to enhance patient care? Lead a quality improvement project. See an opportunity to improve outcomes by changing current practices? Conduct a research study. You can drive meaningful change by gathering evidence to support new approaches.

Even if an intervention doesn’t produce the expected results, you gain valuable insights—either confirming the value of current practices or identifying alternative solutions. In either case, you benefit by (1) learning something new, (2) generating data to guide improvements, and (3) building a collaborative team for ongoing success.Work smarter, not harder. Support the Quadruple Aim—enhancing patient experience, improving population health, supporting team well-being, and reducing costs—by designing interventions that streamline workflows, expand access to care, decrease workplace stress, and increase job satisfaction. For example, one team member developed a project to train family medicine physicians to diagnose uncomplicated ADHD during routine visits. The result: physicians felt more confident in diagnosing and treating ADHD, patients experienced shorter wait times, and access to care improved.

More than an ACGME requirement, engaging in scholarly activity with the FMM Learning Network provides the opportunity to:
1. Connect with peers and colleagues across 11 states.
2. Drive the changes you want to see in GME and clinical practice.
3. Share your work at conferences or in peer-reviewed journals.
4. Replicate successful projects from other member organizations at your own institution.
