Lessons learned for both advancement and happiness, and to provide my insight on how, when you focus on Equity principles and connection with community, it can support individual growth.

About Dr. Wheat:

Dr. Wheat is the Program Director for the Northwestern McGaw Family Medicine Residency at Delnor Hospital. She is an Associate Professor and the Vice Chair of Health Equity in the Department of Family & Community Medicine.

Dr. Wheat earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and her Master of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. She completed a family medicine residency at McGaw Northwestern Family Medicine Residency, Humboldt Park. Dr Wheat has provided full scope primary care, including care of chronic conditions, including HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C. Dr Wheat has previous experience in clinical administration and expansion of medical services. She is active in the AAFP, the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, the Family Physicians Inquiry Network, and the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors. Dr. Wheat is also a certified career and life coach, focused on supporting healthcare workers in conquering their chaos and achieving calm, balancing their career and home life.

Dr. Wheat was previously the Medical Director for the Lending Hands for Life Program within Erie that oversees care for those living with HIV/AIDs, Hepatitis C services, and pre-exposure prophylaxis services to adult and adolescent patients. 

Dr. Wheat has a strong interest in reproductive health, health equity, and social determinants of health. She is also focused on developing leadership, advocacy, and wellbeing skills with learners to help physicians have meaningful and sustainable careers.

Meaningful Impact: Values in Action in Leadership and Medicine

Yohualli B. Anaya, MD, MPH

Session Description:

Dr. Anaya will explore how knowing your values—and bringing them to life in your work—enables you to lead with purpose and create meaningful impact. In this closing plenary, attendees will gain inspiration and practical insight into how being rooted in values provides the clarity and strength to lead through uncertainty, drive change, and help shape the future of health care.  


Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to identify at least two personal or professional values.
2. Participants will be able to describe how to align their actions with these values in their leadership journeys.


About Dr. Anaya:

Yohualli B. Anaya, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She earned her medical degree and Master of Public Health from the USC Keck School of Medicine in California. She completed residency training at the UCLA Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Anaya is Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture (CESLAC) Accelerating Leadership Institute and the 2024-2026 National Academy of Medicine Fellow to Advance State Health Policy. She is an Associate Editor for the
Family Medicine journal, a faculty expert for the Latina Futures Lab, and a Physician Board Director for the UW Health ACO Board of Directors. Dr. Anaya’s research interests include Latinx and immigrant health, investigating and addressing aspects of healthcare delivery that impact care accessibility. She is particularly interested in applying research to promote policies and programs that address accessibility disparities and keep communities healthy. She has collaborated on various research and policy efforts with organizations such as the California Health Care Foundation. She has been a featured expert for the California Legislature's Assembly Health Committee, California Latino Legislative Caucus, and Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE).

Before joining the UW-Madison Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) in 2022, Dr. Anaya was Assistant Professor and core residency faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and Family Medicine Core Clerkship Co-Chair. As core faculty at the UW-Madison DFMCH, she teaches residents and medical students and serves as a primary care physician at an FQHC. She is a UW-Madison Centennial Scholars and Clinicians Program awardee. Dr. Anaya was a 2023 Visiting Scholar at the Robert Graham Center and a 2024 NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities Health Disparities Research Institute Scholar.
